Inner Champion vs. Inner Critic
You’ve made your list of general positive statements days ago. How is that working out for you? Sometimes we need to get a bit more specific. The following journal exercises is excellent to prepare for common negative statements and ways to reframe them.
Journal Activity: Create two columns on your paper. Title the first column as “Negative Self Talk.” Title the second column as “Positive Reframe.”
- You are all too aware of the negative statements your Inner Critic says to you on a regular basis. Write those statements in the “Negative Self Talk” column.
- For each of those items, write another perspective, a positive statement in the “Positive Reframe” column. For example… A negative statement may be ‘I am so lazy… I didn’t workout again.’ A Positive Reframe could be “I am productive and efficient at work” or “I feed my body with healthy foods and challenge my mind’ or give yourself credit for what exercise you did accomplish within they day “I walked 9000 steps today and took the dog for a walk around the neighborhood.”
- Come up with 3 Positive Reframes for every Negative Self Talk statements.
Tip Ask yourself “what’s the evidence?” for the negative statement OR consider what you did do instead of what you did not.
