SAD or GRIEF DEPRESSION?
When we grieve, it is normal to feel sadness. Sad is different than depressed… Sad is a primary emotion and it may come forward in a number of ways… tears, sweating, quietness… It’s quite an internal process.
Depression is so much more…
…lack of energy, lack of interest, lack of motivation, wanting to be alone… not wanting to be with oneself, withdrawing from work, friends, and family, isolation, exhaustion.
Depression is also a part of grief that some experience. Grief Depression is normal when we dip in and out of it. It becomes a concern when it starts to become a constant state that impacts our lives such as missing work or school, not taking care of daily life or self care or in the case of scary thoughts of self harm.
Reach out to your doctor, talk with a therapist to help you if you find depression has become a barrier in your grief rather than an intermittent experience. Resource: National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline: Dial 988 in the US
