What do you think about the word “fail?”
I have had my share of a relationship with the word… Over time, I’ve come to learn it’s just another F word… like fox or funny or fenomenal… oh, that’s a P word…phenomenal, right.
Short, 4 letter F words like “fail” carry strong affiliations… we have strong reactions when we think we may fail or if we did fail or perhaps we’ve failed in the past… Are you getting pings of discomfort yet?
There’s a couple ways to cope with this F word “fail.”
One, we expose ourselves to just the word until it loses it’s impact…kind of like what I did here by using it so many times.
Another way is to avoid failure at all costs. I’m a recovering perfectionist… from my experience, this creates ALOT of anxiety and self criticism… I’d not recommend this.
My favorite way is to embrace the little 4 letter F word and then begin to develop a new relationship with it…
For me, I decided that when I “fail” it becomes an opportunity to learn. So really, it’s not a failure at all, rather a gain…
This mind shift didn’t happen over night. Perhaps, offer yourself some grace when it comes to all the newness, trials and errors, and educated guessing that you’ve endured.
