Have you been inspired by your loss?
Maybe you have been inspired and maybe not. Either way, life is changed from having your Loved One in your life.
I’ve shared how I finally decided to change careers after caring for my Mother-in-Law. It took so many deaths to finally realize my path was to help others as a counselor. My parents made sure I was supported during high school with a counselor after the sudden deaths of two friends. I became very aware of all the changes of those at end of life in regards to my great-grandparents and grandfathers. My whole manner of being present and giving of my time morphed with each subsequent loss. I am so thankful for all that I’ve experienced to be able to do the work I am meant to do.
So, I changed careers. I know some that will repel off buildings or run marathons to raise money for cancer research. Some people coordinate walks, plant gardens or begin to volunteer because they are more aware of the need for awareness, recognition or support.
So many people are equally moved to action. I’m going to share some wonderful organizations with you that came from the heart and pain of loss.
Jesse Lewis Choose Love Movement – I was fortunate enough to meet Scarlette Lewis. Her son Jesse, died in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. She is an amazing woman with a message of love.
Purple Project – I’ll be transparent, I’ve personally been a supporter the Purple Project for a number of years. This organization was created by Sherry and Joe Ancich and is based in Illinois. They offer grief support groups, young single mom sponsorships, have a fundraiser the Purple Ball and host A Night of Hope with amazing speakers on the anniversary of her daughter and unborn granddaughter’s murder.
Avery’s Garden – This organization is a creative venture by Avery’s mother, Tara Denz. She is soulfully connected with other mother’s through their experiences of miscarriage and still birth and creates amazing imagery based on that connection. She also has her own actual garden for Avery.
Love in Motion Signing Choir – this choir is lead by two amazing parents that lost their son and step child. They have been moved in so many ways by their loss and their faith.
And these are just a limited few of the many, many movements that have been inspired by loss. You may not want to create an international not-for profit or travel speaking about your loss. You may just find ways to do random acts of kindness in memory of a loved one or volunteer in some capacity.
So, what’s your next step?
Take a few minutes to reflect or journal:
Is there a next step for you? If so, what may that be?
