“A hug is like a boomerang-you get it back right away.” – Bill Keane
My mom is a hugger… I am, no doubt, a hugger… My kids are huggers…
I grew up with a large extended family. I am the second oldest grand child on both sides of my parents families… My mom’s side were also huggers. My dad’s side is now filled with huggers.
When I was little, I hugged every uncle, aunt, cousin and grandparent when we arrived and when it was time to leave. It took quite some time to say hello and goodbye. I remember some of my younger uncles a little hesitant. Now, it’s the norm. It’s so surprise I love events with my extended family – because we hug.
Holidays are upon us. Take this time to hug those in your life and receive right away. If you don’t have family to hug, take a look around you.
Chances are you have someone in your community that could use a bit of kindness. If it feels right, give it a go and extend a welcoming hug. You don’t know how it will impact you both unless you give it a try…
Here’s a tip: When hugging someone you don’t know well, ask “Are you open to a hug?” or “May I give you a hug?” I have not had anyone refuse though it’s important to ask before entering someone’s bubble.
