“If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.”– Henry David Thoreau
We’ve all heard that phrase… “keeping up with the Jones’.” This quote makes me think of that… Is there really a judgement when someone doesn’t keep up with the neighbors? Is there a consideration as to why that person was moving in another direction? What about differences in values or belief system?
In grief we generally move to a different drummer simply because our lives have entirely changed. It’s not about keeping up right now. It’s not about moving in a similar direction.
It’s simply about being and learning about who you are now in this new way of living.
